We are excited to celebrate our forth membership year in the Reservoir Room at the Stonehouse on the Hill.
This year's program will consist of executive board elections, brief business meeting, buffet lunch & desert, "Wildlife Disease and Invasive Insect Management in Massachusetts" by Brian Bjorklund, Alexis Sigillo, & Nolan Durkee, Wildlife Biologists with USDA and self-tour of the gardens. Brian Bjorklund is a Wildlife Biologist and District Supervisor and works for USDA Wildlife Services. He has been part of the Cape Cod & Southeast MA Rabies Program since 2004. He holds a BS in Biology/Environmental Science from Fitchburg State University and an MS in Conservation Biology from Antioch New England University. Brian works on multiple projects in addition to rabies management including avian influenza surveillance, wildlife biosecurity assessments on poultry farms, and wildlife damage management projects throughout MA, CT, and RI. Brian is on the Rutland, MA Conservation Commission is enjoys kayaking, ice fishing, gardening, and traveling with his family.
Nolan Durkee lives in Leominster MA and holds a B.S in Natural Resource Conservation and Wildlife Management from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He has spent the last two years working with the Asian Longhorned Beetle Eradication program. First with the DCR forestry department where he worked seasonally for a summer, and soon after began working on the program full time with the USDA Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) as a Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) officer conducting trapping and survey operations. Nolan currently serves as the outreach coordinator where he’s eager to spread valuable information about the APHIS mission and the ALB eradication program.
Alexis Sigillo is a Wildlife Technician and has worked for USDA Wildlife Services since 2024. She specializes in rabies management in MA and RI, assists with wildlife biosecurity assessments on poultry farms and other disease work. Alexis obtained her B.S in Biology Organismal/Ecology from Kutztown University of PA and minored in Biochemistry. She then went on to obtain her M.S. in Conservation Medicine from Tufts Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine. Alexis spends her free time thrifting, crafting, and hanging out with her fur-son an orange cat named Cornbread!
